About Me

As an artist I have a particular interest in exploring a sense of place and of human connection through time. I often go deeply into my background research, and this then allows me to combine unusual and meaningful themes in my work. I aim to reveal hidden historical narratives both real and imagined. I am drawn to using vintage objects in my work as I feel they can give us a direct physical and emotional link with the past. I am currently working on a series of work responding to the historic Dorchester Prison site, which has been empty since 2013.

I am a multidisciplinary artist, that is conveying the right sense of meaning in my art takes precedence over always working with the same materials or technique. I work in a wide variety of media including installation, collage, textiles, photography, mixed media and print. These are chosen depending on what I want the viewer of the work to experience and the work to convey.

I am based in Dorset and came to art after an established career in local government. In 2009 I took the plunge and left on a quest to find meaning in more creative work. There followed several enjoyable years working in and managing contemporary gallery settings before focusing full time on my own art. My practice was initially in 3-d design, specifically jewellery design and making. I was a member of the Association of Contemporary Jewellery and sold my jewellery through their regular exhibitions. I still felt I had more to explore however and decided to go back into further education, which is when I ended up specialising in Fine Art.

I will hopefully be developing my art practice further later this year, as I plan to start studying for a Master’s Degree in Fine Art at Arts University Bournemouth.
